Following suit with Liz, many of you are probably wondering what I am up to as well or at least why you have not heard from me in a while. Mostly, I spend my time in lab learning how to do things that are completely obvious to everyone else here. The group is starting a new experiment, and over the past year the basic parts have slowly been coming together. I seemed to have a joined in at an especially oportune time where the pace seems to be picking up and there is never a shortage of things to work on.
Oh, and I am taking this pretty awesome class called “Emergent States of Matter” that examines how long-range order (properties that arise because a bunch of things are intereracting that cannot be understood from their individual properties) appears in physical systems. It is a lot of fun and is pretty much the reason I came to UI.
My lab went kayaking today along Sugar River in Indiana. We took a lazy 8 mile route and tossed a frisbee much of that length. Afterward we were all starving; this encouraged us to stop at The Beef House where we all gorged ourselves past reason. That reminds me, I forgot the extra rolls… O well. I haven’t had a meal quite like that in a while, and it took about 3 hours of napping before I was able to function again. Life is good.
