Recently I have been spending a lot of time in lab, and I have learned some totally awesome stuff while hanging out with the other students in lab. I fiber coupled some lasers, aligned an AOM (a cool thing that changes a beam’s frequency through scattering events with phonons), stub tuned an antenna, made a circuit board, and probably a lot of other things I have already forgotten about. It has been pretty cool.
But, today, I needed a break. I went to the market, got some good vegetables and a watermelon, and decided that dinner had to be something wonderful. When I went to the grocery last, I didn’t see any basmati rice that I felt was worth buying, so I picked up some arborio rice with the intention of making risotto. The recipe I used was heavily inspired by my favorite internet person, Mark Bittman, except that I used blended spinach and chunks of brocolli instead of pureed and sliced asparagus. The dish was exceptionally rich and savory, and I plan on happily subsisting on the left overs for the next few days.

I swear that if you all end up doing AMO I’m going to cry. But lasers are pretty awesome.
i drank coffee out of an Illini bookstore coffee mug….it was pretty good.
and no, i did not make up that spelling.
(btw, liz, it turns out all other physics sucks)
does that mean you were hanging out with the girl that used to work in DeMarco’s group? good for you ben.
